Congratulations to all the team who put on the GAFE (Google Apps for Education) Summit at Albany Senior High School last week, attended by about 200 enthusiastic folk from the wider education community . It was a well-run event, with a nice variety of presentations to meet the different needs of all those attending.
Compared with the previous event two years ago, it was noticeable how many more schools were already using Google Apps, rather than considering it, and there was plenty of opportunity for them to learn from presenters and other attendees about how to improve their use of the suite.
The event was largely run by the US-based EdTech Team (no relation to the old Edtech of local origin) and they seem to be a capable and friendly group that is looking to work with local schools and providers.
For those schools with Google Apps or considering it, I’d recommend this sort of event (and I gather it will be repeated next year) as it’s not only a rich source of information but also another good opportunity to make useful contacts with fellow Google schools.
For those of you not able to make the Summit at Albany (or the one held in Christchurch), it’s well worth having look at their useful list of resources.
